Safe listening
Updated 10 September 2026
This player is for adults to control. Background sound is optional and is not a treatment for sleep difficulties.
Set the volume on your device
Start with your phone, computer or speaker volume low. The on-page percentage is a playback setting, not a measurement of sound at your baby’s ears. Speaker power and distance both affect what is heard. Some phones require their physical volume controls.
Keep the sleep space clear
Keep phones, speakers and charging cables outside the cot and out of reach. The Lullaby Trust advises placing babies on their backs on a firm, flat sleep surface and keeping toys and other unnecessary items out of the cot.

Read the original guidance from The Lullaby Trust on keeping a clear cot and sleeping position.
Check the environment
Stop playback if it seems uncomfortable or disruptive. Do not use sound to cover up crying or replace supervision. If you have concerns about your baby’s sleep or hearing, speak with a qualified health professional.
Understand the timer’s limits
A browser can suspend a page, especially when a screen locks or battery-saving mode starts. Timers can be delayed in those circumstances. Check playback on your own device and do not treat the timer as a safety device.
